FAQ

What is Baltic Amber?

Baltic amber is an organic substance, a “fossil resin” produced by pine trees which grew in Northern Europe from southern regions of the present day Scandinavia and nearby regions of the bed of the Baltic Sea.

The climate became warmer and trees started to exude big amounts of resin rich in succinic acid.

Scientists say that amber is a fossil pine resin from this region that has achieved a stable state through oxidation.

Baltic Amber is as old as time itself, dating back millions of years. And yet, it is still believed in today and used for its magnificent healing power for treating joint pain, arthritic ailments, and even teething pain for children. Because it originates from a stick tree resin, baltic amber often can contain animal and plant materieal inclusions.

Baltic Amber from the Baltic Sea has been traded for approx 2000 years.

Interesting to note that Nicolaus Copernicus documented that his formulas for medicine included 22 specific ingredients -and one of them was Baltic amber.

Historically, treatments for healing and pain relief were made only from the natural environment such as minerals, plants, berries and animals. The common belief was that the more ingredients in a medicine, the stronger the medicine became and the more powerful the results.

Surviving millions of years in the earth, Baltic Amber has not only stood the test of time but has been credited with serving as primary support to the body’s immune system, breakthrough healing for a variety of illnesses and pain relief for everything from teething to arthritis.

What is Succinic Acid?

What is it that amber possesses that has made it a unique contributor to health since the beginning of recorded time? It has a substance – or ingredient called succinic acid. A powerful anti oxidant that helps fight toxic free radicals and disruptions of the cardiac rhythm, succinic acid has been shown to stimulate neural system recovery and bolster the immune system, and help compensate for energy drain in the body and brain, boosting awareness, concentration and reflexes, and reducing stress. Baltic amber contains 3-8% of succinic acid, a scientifically examined medical substance used in contemporary medicine. It strengthens the body, improves immunity, the course of energy-related processes and the balance of acids. Succinic acid was analyzed by the pioneer of modern bacteriology, the Nobel Prize winner,Robert Koch (1886), who confirmed its positive influence and discovered that there is no risk of the accumulation of surplus amounts of succinic acid in the human organism, even after the introduction of considerable amounts into the body. Succinic Acid increases the strength of the body’s internal protective resources. When the immune system experiences fever and inflammatory infections, Succinic Acid heads to the rescue by increasing the body’s temperature to kill the virus and help the body to heal faster. The consistent use of Succinic Acid (Baltic Amber) can help the body to overcome disease quickly and more importantly, may prevent serious infection from happening. Recognised by allopathic medicine as a natural analgesic, there is much documentation regarding the power of succinic acid. Albert The Great, born in 1193 who later became a Dominican monk, called Natural Baltic Amber “Succinium” and stated that it was the most effective medicine of the time followed by other substances such as ocastoreum, mors, camphor, tartarus, and aurum. People of that time also made amber tinctures from beer, wine and water and declared them effective against everything from stomach aches to rheumatism. Recent scientific research has also proved that succinic acid has a very positive influence on the human organism. European biochemists discovered that succinic acid is an amino acid created naturally in every cell of the body capable of aerobic respiration, participating in the citric acid – or Krebs cycle.

How do Amber beads actually work?

As a Natural Anti-inflammatory & Anti-biotic

Baltic Amber is worn for teething, pain and inflammation as a natural anti-biotic. When worn against the skin, body heat helps release the natural oils (succinic acid) from the amber which passes through the skin, absorbing into the bloodstream, and inturn, acting as a natural anti-inflamatory. It is these oils, rich in succinic acid that produce natural relief from pain and discomfort.

Infants, children, teens and adults already recieve the benefits that Baltic Amber has to offer, and now
The therapeutic properties of Baltic amber have been known and used for centuries, & is used in conventional medicine today. Baltic Amber contains between 3% - 8% of succinic Acid.

In the 1930′s and 40′s, European biochemists discovered that succinic acid is an amino acid created naturally in every cell of the body capable of aerobic respiration, participating in the citric acid – or Krebs cycle.

How can Baltic Amber help us?
The natural properties of Baltic Amber

A Baltic Amber Necklace is the best option if you are specifically using Amber to help with the discomforts of teething or respiratory infections in infants, or headaches and respiratory infections in adults, due to the proximity of the amber to the affected region.

Apart from teething, it is no secret that the most common paediatric diseases are of a viral origin, yet there are not many effective and safe antiviral preparations for young babies apart from paracetamol. Therefore it is important to find measures which can alleviate the pain and discomfort of teething and alleviate the symptoms of some viruses.

How do the pet collars work as a parasite repellent?

As a Natural Tick & Flea Repellent (Baltic Amber adjustable Pet collars - for cats and dogs)

Studies have shown that Baltic Amber is therapeutic for your pets! Originally bought out for hip displacements in German Shepherds, and the pain and inflammation associated with this condition, Baltic Amber has proven to repel parasites.

Baltic Amber works 2 ways repelling parasites from your pet.

1. Electrostatic repellent - When your pet wears the collar, friction occurs between the Amber and the coat of your animal. This in turn creates an electrostatic charge and barrier which parasites cannot penetrate. Effectively, when parasite come in contact with the "charged fur", parasites will receive a shock and fall off.

2. Aromatic repellent - Baltic Amber is tree resin, which is made from "Terpenes" or Hydrocarbon secretion, which effervesce with friction. This resinous smell works through the coat of your pet and deters parasites. Parasites do not have noses, they have "Haller Organs" which are located behind their front legs. These sensory organs, detect the resinous smell as a threat.

How do I know what is the right size / length for my child?

These instructions will give you a guide for measuring your desired product:

Measuring for your infant or child:

It is important to choose the correct size for your infant/child. Please ensure that you follow the measuring instructions correctly so that you get the correct size necklace for your infant/child.

When measuring your infant/child, please note that the necklace should fit your child comfortably – however it is important that the necklace cannot be pulled up over your infant/child’s chin. These products are for wearing, not chewing!

1.Using a flexible tape measure, measure around your infant/child’s neck to obtain the desired necklace length;
2.While holding the tape at the desired measurement, ensure that the tape cannot slide up over your infant/child’s chin;
3.If the measuring tape can be pulled over your infant/child’s chin then this measurement is too long, please adjust measurement and attempt to pull the measuring tape over your infant/child’s chin;
4.Optimal measurement is where the necklace can be worn comfortably (not tight) without being able to be pulled over your infant/child’s chin.

Additionally, if you prefer your child to wear an anklet, necklaces can wrap twice around as an anklet. again, you will need to measure around the ankle, with a finger in under the tape measure to allow for bead width. Generally, a necklace that fits comfortable around the ankle twice will be a good size necklace. Our children wear their amber around their ankles to sleep in!

How do I choose a collar size for my pet?

1. Measure with a flexible tape measure, placing a finger comfortable between the neck of your pet and the tape measure;
2. Write this measurement down;
3. Choose the collar size that will allow you to shorten and lengthen the collar due to your pets’ individual requirements;

Consider these questions:
•Do you have your pet shaved?
•Does your pet grow a winter coat?
•Does your pet have some growing to do?

Example:
You measure your pet at 42cm. We recommend choosing the size 40cm – 45cm, which allows for shortening and lengthening the collar.

What is the History of Baltic Amber?

For many centuries since time began, people have used nature’s bounty for traditional medicine. What is sometimes referred to as alternative medicine is actually a mainstay medicine in many parts of the world today. As more and more people are reaching out for natural healing and pain relief, there is one remedy that is prevalent today and has stood the test of time - Natural Baltic Amber.

Natural Baltic amber has unique properties unlike any other Amber in the world.

There is much documentation regarding the power of succinic acid. Albert The Great, born in 1193 who later became a Dominican monk, called Natural Baltic Amber “Succinium”and stated that it was the most effective medicine of the time followed by other substances such as ocastoreum, mors, camphor, tartarus, and aurum. People of that time also made amber tinctures from beer, wine and water and declared the effective against everything from stomach aches to rheumatism.

Amber has been used for its healing properties for thousands of years in Europe and is a traditional European remedy for teething

As late as before World War II, especially in Germany, Baltic amber beads were put on babies to make the eruption of teeth less painful and make the teeth grow stronger.

Famous Hippocrates (460-377 BC), father of medicine, in his works described medicinal properties and methods of application of
Baltic amber that were later used by scientists until the Middle Ages. In ancient Rome Baltic amber was used as medicine and as protection against different diseases.

Calistratus famous physician of those times, wrote that amber protects from madness, powder of amber mixed with honey cures
throat, ear and eye diseases and taken with water cures stomach illnesses.

Pliny the Younger noted that Roman peasant women wore amber medallions not only as adornments, but also as a remedy for "swollen glands and sore throat and palate."

Persian scientist Ibn Sina (Avicenna) called amber a remedy for many diseases. There was a belief in eastern countries
that amber smoke strengthens human spirit and gives courage.

In Asian countries "amber syrup", a mixture of succinic acid and opium,was used as a tranquilizer and antispasmodic.

In the Middle Ages Baltic amber beads were even worn for the treatment of jaundice, It was believed that the magic force of this yellow stone could absorb unhealthy yellowness of the skin and the weakness of the organism.

Terms Oleum succini (amber oil), Balsamum succini (amber balsam), Extractum succini (amber extract) were often used in the recipes and records of the alchemists of those times.
